Hercules Grotto supposedly where Hercules rested before performing one of his 12 tasks. I don't know much about it beyond that; but it seems to be a good spot for the tourist trade! There were shops lining the entrance, and shops along the walls on the inside!
Most cities in Morocco consist of a new town area, an old town area (kasbah) and a medina. The Kasbah was often the original fortified city and the medina is the commercial area that grew up around the Kasbah, often encompassing it. That is the case with the Kasbah in Tangier, being completely surrounded by the medina. All sorts of things can be found in today's medinas. Tourist gifts, fine carpets and jewelry, fresh produce, meats, nuts, spices. But Tangier also has a different market outside of the medina, called the Casa Baraka. It is a flea market where few tourists can be found. It is here that the local people come to buy everything from clothes to electronics to furniture and auto parts! We found it MUCH busier than the medina!

THE MEDINA:
This is the main entrance to the medina. AS we were entering here, an older man approached us and asked us if we wanted to visit his restaurant, that it sold very good traditional food. As it was already past lunch time, we agreed and followed him a few blocks and a few turns into the medina. The restaurant was very nice. Clean and with American style toilets, which is always a plus. We had hariri soup, chicken pie, tagine (Moroccan stew, no picture) chicken cous cous, and a pastry with "Moroccan whiskey" (mint tea).
